Professor Dr. Thomas Schwarz is Director of the Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology, at the UKSH, Campus Kiel. He has been Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine since 2007.

From 1975 to 1980 he studied Medicine at the University of Vienna, Austria.  Following his consultancy training in Dermatology and Venerology he transferred in 1987 to the position of Consultant at the Dermatology Clinic at the Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien-Lainz. After qualifying to teach at professorial level in 1989, Thomas Schwarz became a lecturer at the University of Vienna. In 1991 he accepted a position as Professor of Dermatology at the University of Münster, where he worked as Managing Consultant and acting Director in the Clinic and Polyclinic for Dermatology and Venerology of the University Hospital Münster until 2004. Since 2004 he has been Professor of Dermatology and Venerology at Kiel University and Director of the Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel.

His main research focus is UV induced signal transduction and immunosuppression, his clinical research interests are in the field of immunodermatology, allergology and dermatooncology.
