The biobanking network PopGen 2.0 Network (P2N) tracks the organisational merging of nine research biobanks at Kiel University's Faculty of Medicine, at the UKSH's Campus Kiel and at the Research Center Borstel.

This networking is aimed at making biomaterials and associated data of the participating biobanks more effectively useful for medical research both nationally and internationally. The biobanks were collected in full compliance with current data protection regulations and ethical principles. P2N's objective is to create a sustainable biobank infrastructure at the UKSH, Campus Kiel, and Kiel University in order to ensure that scientific research can continue in the long term with quality controlled human biomaterials.

P2N is financially supported until 2016 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) and was transferred to a central facility at Kiel University's Faculty of Medicine since the beginning of 2017.

P2N is partner of the cluster of excellence Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation and an integral part of the existing biobanking infrastructure.
