Director:

  • Prof. Dr.med. Thomas Schwarz

The Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology was founded in 1902. It covers both the diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of dermatology, venerology and allergology.

The Department has one of the largest centres for clinical trials in Germany. Its research focuses on the investigation of chronic inflammatory skin conditions and dermatooncology. In addition to clinical and epidemiological research on psoriasis, neurodermitis and melanoma, research is also conducted primarily in the clinical research group "Mechanismen kutaner Entzündungsreaktionen" (mechanisms of cutaneous inflammatory reactions). The effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin are also analysed.

The Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology has received the Faculty of Medicine's Teaching Prize on numerous occasions for excellence in teaching the subject of Dermatology. This is awarded on the basis of student evaluations.
