The Department of Neurosurgery in the Neurozentrum (Neuro Centre) at the UKSH, Campus Kiel is the largest neurosurgical department in Schleswig-Holstein. The range of treatments covers the entire field of surgically treatable conditions of the nervous system. It is uniquely characterised by the integration of a high-field MRT in the surgical department for intraoperative quality control. Its main focus areas in research and patient care are brain tumours, cerebrovascular disorders and movement disorders.

Furthermore, the Department participates in national and international studies, partially with leading roles, on brain tumours, conditions of the cerebrovascular system, of the spinal cord and movement disorders. It also co-operates with the Department of Neurology in the field of movement disorders, with the Department of Neuroradiology for projects on cerebrovascular conditions and with the Department of Trauma Surgery for studies on conditions of the spinal cord and skull base surgery.
