Deutsche Zentren der Gesundheitsforschung

The Faculty of Medicine is participating in two of the six Deutsche Zentren der Gesundheitsforschung (DZG - German Centres for Health Research):

Deutsches Zentrum für Herz-Kreislauf-Forschung (DZHK - German Centre for Cardiovascular Research)

Deutsches Zentrum für Lungenforschung (DZL - German Centre for Pulmonary Research)

The Federal Government set up the DZG as a new research network in 2011. The centres offer optimum research conditions for combating endemic diseases. With these key ideas the centres are the centrepiece of the Federal Government's framework programme for health research. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is providing approx. 700 million Euros until 2015 to establish the DZG centres.

In total there are six DZG (German Centres for Health Research):

  • Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen (German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases)
  • Deutsches Zentrum für Diabetes (German Centre for Diabetes)
  • Deutsches Zentrum für Infektionsforschung (German Centre for Infection Research)
  • Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung (German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research)
  • Deutsches Zentrum für Herz-Kreislauf-Forschung (German Centre for Cardiovascular Research)
  • Deutsches Zentrum für Lungenforschung (German Centre for Pulmonary Research)
