Doctoral degrees at the Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine awards its doctoral degree graduates the academic title of Doctor. The title Dr. med. or. Dr. med. dent. serves as evidence of the individual’s ability to perform advanced academic work. In order to obtain the title of Doctor you must produce an independent academic thesis (dissertation) and pass an oral examination (defence of the doctoral thesis/disputation).

Doctoral degrees at Kiel University’s Faculty of Medicine are governed by the Doctoral Degree Regulations (in German only).

In order to supervise a doctoral thesis, you must be a member with a lecturing qualification (habilitated member) of the Faculty of Medicine of Kiel University. This applies to you if you have an employment contract with the CAU/UKSH. In contrast, habilitated physicians at external institutions like academic teaching hospitals are members of the CAU and as such can supervise a doctoral thesis only in cooperation and with the consent of a full-time member with lecturing qualification of the Faculty of Medicine.
