The Department of Trauma Surgery (Traumatology) specialises in the care of trauma injuries and their secondary complications and conditions. This includes in particular, the treatment of patients who are severely injured or who have multiple injuries and the treatment of severe individual injuries of the pelvis, spinal cord and the extremities. Patients are treated with the latest surgical endoscopic methods as well as minimally invasive and computer-aided surgical procedures.

The Department's main research areas are tissue regeneration of cartilage, bone and soft tissue, and also "Trauma - another type of inflammation reaction".

The Department's teaching activities are related to injuries of the musculoskeletal system and body cavities and their principles of treatment. Subjects are taught with support from an E-Learning platform.
