Qualified, didactical further education for university lecturers enhances the quality of their teaching and therefore leads to a better quality of education for students. Accordingly, the Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat), the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK), the German Rectors´ Conference (HRK) and the German Association of Medical Faculties (MFT) have increasingly demanded structured and certified (medical) didactical further education in recent years.

In addition to improved teaching, it also offers a competitive advantage for university lecturers, as this type of qualification is increasingly included as a requirement in job advertisements.

For this reason, the Faculty of Medicine at the CAU established the KiMed Zentrum für Medizindidaktik (Centre for Medical Education). This centre advises faculty lecturers if they have questions in regard to their teaching. In addition it offers further education courses in the field of medical education and initiates, supervises and supports the introduction of new forms of teaching, learning and assessment. Successful completion of the university and medical didactic course "KiMed Train the Trainer - Junge Lehrende" is a requirement for Habilitation (qualifying as a lecturer) at the Faculty of Medicine.

The faculty also promotes members, who are enrolled in the Master of Medical Education (MME-D) degree programme and who would like to contribute the skills and knowledge that they have acquired there to the faculty.
